Our purpose: To show people they really matter to God
Connecϯions is for everyone, welcoming people of all ages while specifically reaching out to those later in life, especially those with memory loss, living with dementia, and their carers’, and those with hearing or sight loss.
Connecϯions takes place on the first Friday of each month 2.00-4.00pm in St Nicholas Hall, Shrewsbury United Reformed Church
Fun and fellowship are enjoyed through various crafts, activities, games.
Each month, crafts, activities, and worship follow a theme reflecting our Christian values, offering both cognitive and spiritual stimulation in an environment that is engaging and fun. Helpers are on hand to enable people to participate as needed.
A chance to join in with singing old familiar songs with our community sing along.
A short time of worship with a flexible approach, brings together the theme of the session and includes the singing of those well-loved traditional hymns.
An enjoyable part of the afternoon is the chance to chat and share stories over a cup of tea and light refreshments.
The aim is to foster a welcoming, engaging environment where everyone feels valued and leaves with a smile.
Church Choir
We have a very active church choir of about 30 members who practise in the church hall at 6.15pm most Thursday evenings. It is non-auditioning and is open to all those who like to sing as part of their contribution to the church services. There is no requirement to be able to read music.
The anthems that we sing cover quite a range of styles, and practices are a combination of light hearted fun and hard work. We do not sing as a choir in church for every service, but when we feel anthems have reached a sufficient standard we offer them to the service leaders to be included as they wish.
‘Honest Faith‘
‘Honest Faith’ is a discussion group, created to hear, question and explore aspects of the Christian Faith for today’s world. Some people sense that at its core, Christianity has something good to offer humanity, but, at the same time, many have a sense that they are alone in being a ‘thinking’ Christian and that ‘salvaging’ Christianity is a hopeless task. What is needed is a safe environment where people have the permission to ask the questions they’ve always wanted to ask.
We try to cover a broad range of relevant and challenging topics which seek to provide opportunities to explore the Christian Faith for today’s world – with honest discussion where we are free to express different views in supportive and respectful ways – thereby trying to offer an open-minded alternative to courses which attempt to give participants all the answers.
Our meetings are usually held monthly on the 2nd Sunday evening of each month in our Lecture Room, Shrewsbury United Reformed Church, Coleham Head, Shrewsbury, SY3 7BJ (by the English Bridge) for any (or to all) of these sessions. Each session is complete in itself so don’t worry if you can’t come every time. A warm welcome with refreshments from 6.30pm (voluntary donation of £2 per person towards general costs suggested) with the aim of finishing by no later than 8.00pm. All are welcome, even if you haven’t been before.
If you have ideas and suggestions for future meetings (topics, speakers, resources, etc), and/or wish to be included on our ‘Honest Faith’ email list for Honest Faith updates, please don’t hesitate to contact any of our Honest Faith planning group: Grant Brackley, Ken Chippindale, Roy Haworth, James Moraghen or Dave Treweeke.
Our next Honest Faith meeting will take place on Sunday 12th April at 6.30pm, in the Lecture Room, at Shrewsbury United Reformed Church (by the English Bridge).
